bryler miller
Growing up in a single-parent home wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but it was all he knew. Bryler was born seven years after his older brother, Charles - who preferred to go by his middle name Lee, - and things had already started to go to hell with his new family; if anything, Bryler's birth only brought more stress. By the time he turned five, his so-called loving mother walked out on the family and never looked back. From then on out, it was just John and his two sons, but instead of John taking care of the boys properly, Lee was more of the man of the house. The brothers were put to work in order to help out around the old and beat-up home in the outskirts of Blue Island. By the time Bryler was eight-years-old, it was almost a nightly occurrence with him and Lee picking up their drunk father from one of the local dive bars. Somehow, though, John was still able to maintain his businesses of owning a small chain of family restaurants throughout Illinois. Of course, this was all thanks to the help of Bryler and Lee always coming into the kitchens to work after school, barely leaving them any time to excel in their classes and grades - Lee managed it well, but the younger Miller was a different story.
School was never a top priority for Bryler as most of his focus was spent on his father and looking up to his older brother, who seemed to have everything figured out. Lee always knew how to properly deal with situations to get the best results while Bryler liked to take the more difficult route. He was a hellish kid who rebelled against practically everything. By the time he entered high school, he knew more about how a restaurant was ran, carpentry, plumping, and being able to make a box of Top Ramen noodles last for a month than how the United States was formed or how to properly put together a research paper with proper grammar. The principle of his high school had called the home multiple times in attempts to speak with Bryler's father in regards to his grades and class behavior (when he actually even showed up to school), but John was always too drunk to come to the phone or nowhere to even be seen. Luckily, Lee always came to Bryler's rescue and lied through his teeth about how he would have a stern talking to his brother and make sure his attitude improved. The talk was never given as Lee, like a good and watchful older brother, somehow understood the reasons behind Bryler's misbehaving actions.
Instead of dwelling on how important an education actually was, and the fact that there was an absolute zero chance he'd graduate when he was supposed to, in his free time Bryler was either found outside with a sketchbook and pencil or locked away in his room when the weather wouldn't allow him to venture outdoors. Even though he rarely showed his face at school, the Miller name was well enough known around town that Bryler had created a reputation for himself. Despite his brother's legacy before him of being known as the good and honest guy, Bryler headed in the opposite direction and ended up in juvenile hall twice by the time he was seventeen. Being a senior in high school might has well not even be considered part of his past for the fact that he just stopped going the second day of school and never looked back.
The only good thing that came out of high school years was the chance meeting of his high school sweetheart and mother of his now fourteen-year-old daughter, Mia. However, their on and off twelve plus years relationship was anything but sunshine and rainbows. It was a typical high school romance until the second time Bryler was released from juvenile hall. She had had enough and up and left without even a goodbye, but by then, Bryler wasn't surprised to have another woman he loved walk out of his life. As soon as he turned eighteen, Bryler hightailed it out of Colorado and spent the next four years backpacking across the country and in and out of Mexico. Those four years are only now remembered in bits and pieces though, as Bryler spent the majority of it high on crystal meth. He met plenty of fun and random characters who let him crash on their couches for a few days before he moved on, made money by selling random art projects and drawings, but he never really ever had more than fifty dollars to his name at one time or another. A random call from his brother informing him of their father's sudden cancer diagnosis brought him back to Grand Junction one day, but Bryler had obviously changed a lot. If he hadn't learned any street smarts while growing up, he sure as hell got the hang of it in his four years of travel. Still, he seemed to instantly fall back into the same old familiar routine of helping out with his father's business while his brother stood by his side doing the same.
Bryler's twenties were a whole new cluster of disaster, but nowhere near as bad as they were when he was younger. Sure, he had a few run-ins with the law, but they were only minor things like bar fights and drunk in public incidences that only held him in a cell overnight. As fate had it, him and his one and only ex-girlfriend got into contact again and continued their poisonous on-again, off-again relationship. A random freak car accident in 1992 put him on his back for half a year; it never received proper treatment and has plagued him to this day. By the time he turned twenty-six, Bryler had practically lived and done everything normal people would only half experience by the time they hit their mid-life crises. Fate continued its peculiar humor though, and his then girlfriend announced that she was pregnant. To say that Bryler overreacted to the news was an understatement. A hole in the wall of his bedroom needed to be patched up after that night as she took off once again. Nine months later, Bryler was holding his newly born baby girl for the first time, and from the moment he laid eyes on her, his attitude about life changed dramatically.
One more attempt was made on Bryler's part to work out a relationship with his ex, but after four years, they officially called it quits. Bryler moved out to Chicago in 2004 after making sure his father was taken care of and working out a schedule for visiting rights with his daughter, and a new life begun. Instead of continuing in the restaurant, construction, and marijuana selling businesses, Bryler bought himself the fanciest Mac computer of the time and began to focus on his art more. He proceeded to develop his talent and eventually started his own digital graphic design freelance business that helped him purchase land and build his own home in 2009. Though still not the most emotionally and mentally stable guy in the world, Bryler's somehow still alive and kicking, but that is really only thanks to the blessing of his little angel from heaven, Mia.
personality
Unfortunately, Bryler never had the experience of a real childhood due to being raised in a single-parent, broken, and poor household. With his mother walking out on the family when he was only five-years-old, Bryler has never experienced the proper love and care from a woman. Having grown up like this, he's developed an extreme internal fear of commitment and is not quite sure how to properly deal with and express his emotions. He has built up an extremely thick skin to cope, and it still is a part of him today. At first glance, Bryler comes off as the epitome of a typical testosterone enraged asshole, but those he allows to get to know him know he can be a big goofball - especially with enough alcohol in his system to let loose. However, starting a conversation with him can sometimes feel like one is speaking with a brick wall as his answers are short and extremely vague, but with a strong enough push and interest, he will expand on his thoughts and opinions. He teases those he cares about and doesn't give a second glance to those he could give two less shits about. Having had to learn to take care of himself growing up, Bryler's become a very hard and dedicated independent man. He is ultimately set in his ways and refuses to change much about his routine of his daily life. (ISTJ)
